Before you start….
Grease from fingerprints can be harmful to photographs. Ensure you have clean, dry hands when handling your photographs and avoid direct contact where possible. The Photo Store recommends using white cotton gloves when handling your images.
You'd like your memories to last a lifetime, so don't rush to get your album together quickly. Clear off the dining table, spread your photos out and have a good look at what you hope to achieve. This is a great project for a rainy weekend or during those non-rating times in the television calendar.
Your album is like a book so treat it like you are writing a visual story. More can quite often be less; by overfilling your album with every snapshot you often lose sight of the story. Cull those photos you don't need or crop the embarrassing relatives out of the picture to use a smaller aperture. Bigger can sometimes be better; enlarge the really special images and feature them on their own page. We recommend using an 8" x 10" or 8" x 12" enlargement for a feature shot.
Once you have an idea of your 'story' you can begin to determine the mats you'll need and the order of your photos. Most of our albums come with a Standard Mat Selection. You will know how many photos you can put into each album. Generally you can change the combination of mats to suit your own preferences. Just check how many mats the album can hold and make sure you've chosen only that number of mats. Our mats are cut slightly smaller on all sides than the image you need to frame. If you have an 8" x 10" enlargement you would use an 8" x 10" mat.
